Christian Dior:

Savior of Haute Couture

The world was in ruins in 1947. The effects of World War II were still looming above the heads and within the souls of every nation, most especially those in Europe. Another war was at its dawn as nuclear weapons became every government’s singular priority. But little did the world know that magic – a magic that would uplift the dwindling spirits of all women - was being created in Paris by a then unknown man.

Christian Dior followed a winding path before actualizing his true purpose in this world. Before any other art form, Dior was madly in love with painting. It consumed him so much that he was an art gallery owner, selling works by artists such as Pablo Picasso.

Unfortunately, his economic circumstance took a turn for the worse, which forced him to close the gallery in 1929. He continued to display his artistic inclinations by becoming a fashion illustrator for a French newspaper, Le Figaro, and working for fashion designer Robert Piguet in 1937. In 1939, he had to concede to the demands of World War II by serving the French military. When he returned, he worked alongside Pierre Balmain for designer Lucien Lelong in 1942.

At this point, it seemed like Dior had already lived such a storied life but apparently, his life was only about to begin….
